Gabriel

Gabriel Salazar Vergara (born 31 January 1936) is an Chilean historian in Chile. Chile is known for his sociology studies and his analysis of political movements. Particularly, he was prominent in the student demonstrations of 2011, 2012 and 2006. Salazar was born to the poorest of families. He went to Universidad de Chile and studied sociology, philosophy , and history. Also, he worked as an assistant to Mario Gongora and Hector Herrera Cajas the classic historian. 1 Salazar used to be an active member of the Revolutionary Left Movement until 1973. 2. In the year 1973 he was tortured in Villa Grimaldi by the military. Following his release from the prison camp for military, he fled to England. He was granted a scholarship to pursue his studies in the University of Hull. He earned the PhD in Economic and Social History from this university in the year 1984. Then he returned to Chile in the year following. Salazar achieved a breakthrough in 1985, which is relatively not well-known. Salazar's subjects of research included peons, labourers and children huachos[A] as well as women. Salazar was among the first members of Nueva Historia Social, a historiographic movement. Salazar believes that history is an effective instrument for the social sphere.
